Without a doubt one of the best and probably one of
my favourite movies has to be Pearl Harbour. Released in 2001, and directed by
Michael Bay, Pearl Harbour tells the tale of two friends during World War
II. Rafe McCawley played by Ben Affleck and Danny Walker played
by Josh Hartnett,
two young friends from Tennessee. When imitating flying army fighter planes
when they come across Rafe's father's plane. The boys climb in and
unexpectedly get their first flight experience when Rafe accidentally
starts the plane. Their love for flying grows and grows from this point.
Eighteen years later they boys both become First Lieutenants and find
themselves in a bit of trouble when they are caught playing "chicken"
in two of they army's planes.
Just before Rafe had qualified he sweet talked Nurse
Evelyn into passing him to be fit to fly. They meet a few nights later and he
breaks the news that he has been accepted to the Eagle Squadron. He tells her
he is due to leave but asks her not to see him off! Later Danny
and Evelyn bump into each other in a theatre and both leave when they
see the news of Eagle Squadron planes being shot down over the English Channel.
Danny and Evelyn get a coffee and watch a sunset over Pearl Harbour. This is
when both begin to develop feelings for the other! And the plot thickens!!
Soon after Evelyn is in awe when she sees Rafe
standing in front of her! He explains how he saved his plane crash and why he
could not get word out. This is when Danny comes into the picture. When
Rafe realises there is something going on between Danny and Evelyn he is broken
and is left feeling betrayed. He decides to go join his other pilots who are
more than happy to discover he is alive.
The following mooring
is the beginning of the attack on Pearl Harbour and it is after this
when the two "friends" are to be sent on a private mission. Before
the leave for the States Evelyn asks to see Rafe tells him that she is pregnant
with Danny. She tells him how she is going to love Danny but will
never forget him. She does not want him to tell Danny because she
does not want him distracted.
The rest has to be watched! There is
no possible way I could describe what happens after all I can say is any
viewer will be overwhelmed by emotion. I could watch this movie one
hundred times and it will have the same affect on me as it did the first
time I saw it !! Truly one of my favourite movies and would
strongly recommend anyone who has not seen it to watch it NOW!!
